A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL

The school was opened in 1955 in the old Clapham High buildings on the corner of Du Toit and Dr Savage Streets. The name of the School was suggested by a member of staff, Miss L.L. Roe, and was formally adopted on the 1st of February 1955, at a meeting of over two hundred parents. At the same time the school motto - LEVABO OCULOS which means "I will lift up my eyes" - suggested by Mr E. van Niekerk, was accepted; the school colours, anthem and uniform were decided upon and a
parents' association was formed.
